Coalgate, Oklahoma

Coalgate is the designated county seat of Coal County, June 13, 1908, by proclamation of the governor.
Formerly Liddle, the post office name was changed to Coalgate, January 23, 1890.
It took its name from nearby coal mines.

Present Coalgate in Coal County. The post office was established September 18, 1889.
The name changed to Coalgate, January 23, 1890.
It was named for William Liddle, a coal mining superindendent.
