Tupelo, Oklahoma
Located 9 miles northwest of Coalgate in Coal County.
Formerly called Jeffs. The post office name changed to Tupelo,
January 13, 1904. Its name comes from Tupelo, Mississippi which in turn,
had been named for the tupelo gum tree.

Although Jeffs was originally located at another site,
it is the present Tupelo, in Coal County.
The post office was established June 28, 1894,
moved to the present site of Tupelo, October 25, 1900.
The name changed to Tupelo, January 13, 1904.
Named for Jefferson D. Perry, the first postmaster.
